Mobility Aids Service Assistant – Galashiels
Hours: Part-time - 20 hours per week
Shift Pattern : Monday 1pm-5pm, Tuesday – Driving, Wednesday 1pm -5pm, Thursday 9am – 1pm, Friday 9am -1pm
Contract type: Permanent
Salary: £16,914 per annum pro rata (actual salary for 20 hours is £9,665 per annum)

Could you be the first point of contact for our Mobility Aids Service and make a difference to people's lives?
We have an opportunity for a part-time Service Assistant to join our Mobility Aids Service (MAS) based in Galashiels. This is a fantastic opportunity for enthusiastic, compassionate, people-focussed individual to play an important role in helping people to maintain their independence.
The role of Service Assistant is to provide administrative and operational support to the Mobility Aids Service. The service hires a ra nge of standard wheelchairs and other items to people who need them.
As a Service Assistant, you will work alongside our existing volunteers and staff to provide outstanding customer service when interacting with service users in person, on the phone, and online. You will also carry out a range of administrative duties.
This role requires use of full Personal Protective Equipment, including Fluid resistant face masks, to be worn at all times while delivering services. This will be provided for you.
The role will involve frontline work with vulnerable service users and will not always allow for a 2-metre social distance to be maintained. You will be asked to complete a Risk assessment to confirm you are able to take up Frontline work, at onboarding stage. If you consider yourself to be a person at greater risk from Covid or you are unable to wear a facemask for long periods of time then this role may not be suitable for you.

The British Red Cross Mobility Aids Service are committed to ensuring that during a period of personal crisis everyone has access to the equipment they need, whoever and wherever they are.
We offer loans of wheelchairs and other mobility items, as well as training on how to properly use them. As such, we give people the ability to continue living independently without the need for outside help, whilst also easing people's transition to living at home again following a hospital stay.
In part of the territory, we have relationships with health commissioners to provide equipment that allows people to maintain their independence whilst living with a health condition.

This role might be for you if...**
You are self-motivated and comfortable with lone-working, however support will be available within the team at all times, especially during induction.
You're computer confident, you know your way around Microsoft Office and have the ability to learn and work with an online stock management system.
You're a 'people person', you've got good teamwork, communication and customer service skills, and you're confident dealing with queries from customers, hospitals and referring agencies in a positive and professional manner.
You're cool, calm, and collected. You are organised, can prioritise tasks and manage your workload under pressure, as well as being comfortable with han dling financial transactions.
Driving Licence is Essential as is access to your own transport due to the remote location of the role.

If you have lived overseas for 6 months or more in the last 5 years, you will be required to obtain the overseas clearance from the relevant country (or countries) accompanied with an official translation (if not in English), should you be successful in securing the role.
